The plunger is distributed along the circumference radial (the plunger is perpendicular to the drive shaft) is the radial plunger pump. The plunger distributed along the direction of the driving shaft (parallel to the driving shaft) is the axial piston pump.

 

Compared with the radial plunger pump, the axial plunger pump has a high discharge pressure. Generally, it can work within the range of 20 ~ 50MPa with high efficiency. The radial size is small, the structure is compact, the volume is small and the weight is light. But the structure is more complex than the radial plunger pump, processing and manufacturing high requirements, more expensive.
